Progress
Posted by brandie
Despite a number of major setback so far, we are forging ahead. Below are pictures of the house since we took over from our former general contractor. Things are moving ahead but not nearly as quickly as we would like.

I hope you have been taking more pictures than show here in the blog. You have a very good case for criminal fraud and Grand theft, against the contractor. You should also talk to the State Attorney General and local BBB. The more you can document what was "claimed/paid for," and not done, the better. Also talk to the subcontractors and make sure that _they_ have been paid for their work. Otherwise they can files a suit against *you* to be paid.
If you haven't already, get a lawyer involved, along with the county prosecutor. The contractor did more than just "delay" you. He has done major harm.

WOW!! DEJA VU!!! We just went through our own situation that sounds SO similar to yours!! My gosh, everything you said about your contractor sounded just like what we went through with ours, and our project was a farmhouse renovation in MN. Yes, we got raped, too, only our contractor didn't have much of any personal property, and only carried liability insurance for the job site. They still paid in the settlement, but only 1/15th of what we were looking at for damages. It didn't even pay for all of our legal fees, but he had had the gall to try to sue us for more money, after having overpaid him for what he HAD done.
I guess it just goes back to the old saying, "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."
