Progress, but not without headaches
Posted by brandie

We finally finished the superstructure and the interior rough-framing. We identified problems with bowing perimeter log walls that did not have interior stiffening walls framed before the upper level and loft were constructed. We had to drill some 5/8" holes completely through several courses of logs and into the concrete foundation. We then fitted anchor bolts and used a come-along to pull the walls straight.

Our next issue was window/door installation. We decided to have all windows and doors on the log level flashed in copper. Finding the right material to epoxy bottom copper drain pan flashings for each opening was a challenge. After several iterations we finally came up with a design that worked with our new windows.

Once again, field modifications and design changes led to extra costs, but we are making progress. We hope to have the first of our two cabins on the market by spring.
